Dissolve NATO

This just in, from the conservative British daily newspaper, the Telegraph

Nato cannot defend its eastern allies and Russian tanks could be in the Baltic capitals within 60 hours according to new analysis from a US think tank.
Current forces in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania would be unable to stop a Russian invasion and would be overrun in under three days.
“As currently postured, Nato cannot successfully defend the territory of its most exposed members.”
Rand Corporation
The analysis by the army research division of the Rand Corporation used war game scenarios played out by serving and former military officers to estimate that the longest it would take for Russian troops to reach the outskirts of Tallinn or Riga would be only 60 hours.
The report concludes: “The games’ findings are unambiguous: As currently postured, Nato cannot successfully defend the territory of its most exposed members.”

The purpose of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization has since its 1949 formation been to counter the Russians. When, under Party Secretary Gorbachev Russia set aside Warsaw Pact commitments offered voluntarily or not by Eastern European neighbors, there was no further realistic threat of Russian invasion of Western Europe. An entire belt of East European countries stood in the way, by unilateral action on Russia’s part.

At that point a sign of welcome from the West to Gorbachev initiatives would have been the dissolution of NATO, as no longer necessary for self-defense of Germany, France, England, and the U.S. Instead, our idiotic leadership expanded NATO, right up to complete indefensibility.

And now, what do we do? The Alliance meant to counter Russia is unable by its own measure to do so.
Let us, the United States, step forward now, before a World War Three breaks out over some damn thing in the Baltics. NATO is useless and should be dissolved.

Update 25 March 2016:  It seems David Stockman agrees.
