The Rape of the Sabines

The British daily newspaper Telegraph reports today

The leader of Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram has issued a new video in which he denied claims of a deal to free the 200 girls kidnapped in April from a school in the northern town of Chibok.
Abubakar Shekau, the mercurial leader of the Islamist group, smirked as he said that the girls would never be released because they had been “married off” to fighters.
“The issue of the girls is long forgotten because I have long ago married them off,” he said, laughing. “In this war, there is no going back.”

I don’t think the Sheik Abu-Bakr knows of the precedent, but Romulus founded the Roman Empire with a similar act.
